ViPR 2.2 - Understanding Access and Roles in the ViPR User Interface (UI)

Table of Contents

Overview

The ViPR role to which you are assigned determines the areas of the UI that you can access, the pages you can access, and, in some cases, what you can do on a page. This article describes how to access the ViPR UI and shows which UI pages are accessible to each VDC or tenant role. In addition, it describes the access granted to provisioning end users; that is, users who are not assigned to any ViPR role.

You can find more information on users and roles in Understanding Users, Roles, and ACLs. For information on how to log in to the ViPR UI, refer to Log in to EMC ViPR.

UI access is described in the following topics:

In addition, the Role Matrix provides an access matrix for the ViPR UI menu items for each role.

Admin roles and feature access

The VDC or tenant roles assigned to a user determine what operations the user can perform and the pages that the user can access at the ViPR UI.

The following table lists the operations and the location in the ViPR UI from which the operation is accessible.

UI access for tenant users

Provisioning end users are not assigned to VDC or tenant roles in and access the ViPR UI through the service catalog and resources areas. These areas allow end users to view the service catalog, submit orders, view their orders, and view the resources created as a result of their orders.

ViPR users assigned to VDC roles, such as System Administrator and Security Administrator, have similar access to the service catalog and resources view as end users.

Tenant roles have additional access to the service catalog and resources areas as detailed in the table below.

Role matrix

A matrix is provided to show the availability of menu items for each role. Where a user has more than one assigned role, the access rights are additive.
