Overview

This article explains how to install and configure the SolutionPack for EMC Data Protection Advisor. This SolutionPack enables users to generate real-time and historical reports on replication technologies, as well as the EMC Data Domain backup-to-disk platform supported by Data Protection Advisor.

This article applies to EMC ViPR SRM version 3.5.1.

Installing the SolutionPack

Before you begin

  • ViPR SRM core modules must be up-to-date in all servers because not all module dependencies are validated during the SolutionPack installation or update process.

Procedure

  1. Log in.
  2. Click Administration.
  3. Click Centralized Management.
  4. Click SolutionPacks.
  5. Select SolutionPack Center.
  6. Select the SolutionPack for EMC Data Protection Advisor in the Browse and Install SolutionPacks screen.
  7. Click Install.
    The steps below assume a typical four VM deployment.
  8. In the Alert Consolidation field of the Select the components to install window, select the Primary Backend host.
  9. In the Data Collection field, select the Collector host.
  10. In the Reports field, select the Frontend host.
  11. Click Next.
  12. In the Data Collection window, make a selection in the Data collection field.
    If you select Add a new Data Collection, type information for the collected data. In the > Hostname or IP address to send data field, type the Primary Backend host.
  13. Leave Enable alerting on data collected checked.
  14. Make a selection in the Alerting on data collection field of the Pre-configured alerts window.
    If you select Add a new Alerting on data collection to select a different alerts destination, select a Primary Backend host as the > Alerting Backend the hostname or IP address.
  15. In the Hostname or IP address field type the Primary Backend host.
  16. In the DPA Host name or IP field, type the host information for the DPA appliance.
  17. Provide the access credentials for the DPA appliance.
  18. If this is the first instance of SRM polling from the DPA instance, select Advanced Settings and > Enable scheduling of DPA reports. If you do not select these options, there are no DPA reports for SRM to collect.
    The Polling performance intervals are set by default. These are configurable.
  19. Click the plus (+) sign to add additional DPA appliances
  20. In the Administration Web-Service Instance field in the Reports window, select the Frontendhost.
  21. Click Next.
  22. Click Install.
    The SolutionPack installation begins.
  23. Click Ok once installation is complete.
    Performance data will displayed in about an hour.

Troubleshooting alert collection errors on SolutionPack for EMC Data Protection Advisor

Reconfigure the data collection options in the SolutionPack for EMC Data Protection Advisor if alert collection is not occurring. This procedure applies to each DPA instance for which alert collection is not occurring.

Procedure

  1. Click Administration.
  2. Click Centralized Management.
  3. Click Storage > EMC Data Protection Advisor .
  4. Within the Instance column, click on the edit icon to reconfigure the options for the affected DPAinstance that is affected by the problem.
  5. Select the Enable alert collection from DPA.
  6. Click Reconfigure.

Troubleshooting report generation errors on SolutionPack for EMC Data Protection Advisor

Reconfigure the data collection options in the SolutionPack for EMC Data Protection Advisor if reports are not being generated. This procedure applies to each DPA instance for which reports are not being generated.

Procedure

  1. Click Administration.
  2. Click Centralized Management.
  3. Click Storage > EMC Data Protection Advisor .
  4. Within the Instance column, click on the edit icon to reconfigure options for the affected DPA instance.
  5. Select the Do you want to configure advanced settings and > Enable scheduling of DPA reports options.
  6. Click Reconfigure.
