Introduction to the ViPR SRM interfaces

Get started with ViPR SRM. Learn how to access the ViPR SRM Console. Gain a high-level understanding of the usage and purpose of the User, Administration, and Centralized Management interfaces.

EMC ViPR SRM is a comprehensive monitoring and reporting solution for enterprise-wide data storage assets. ViPR SRM helps an organization visualize, analyze, and optimize its storage investments.

The ViPR SRM management framework is a web-based application. The application provides reporting and monitoring services for EMC and third-party devices in your storage infrastructure. Asset-specific SolutionPacks provide a user interface that is customized specifically to the components in your environment.

ViPR SRM presents the following separate portal pages for user and administrative tasks:

User Interface
Provides access to all reporting, analysis, and visualization features.
Provides access to administrative tasks for the application, such as managing users and application modules.
Centralized Management
Provides deployment and management of licenses, SolutionPacks, and additional servers and modules.

You can access all portals from the same URL and login session.

ViPR SRM uses dashboards, tables, topology maps, and graphs to present statistics about your storage infrastructure.

The User Interface provides end-to-end visibility into the performance, health, availability, and configuration of storage assets and the supporting storage infrastructure, including hosts, adapters, and switches. Information is presented in various formats and degrees of detail.

Dashboard reports show summary-level statistics about usage and capacity. For example, the following dashboard provides a high-level view of the storage resources in an organization.

Dashboard convenience features include:

Tables provide views into all aspects of capacity, usage, configurations, and available free space. These details help storage administrators analyze, plan for, and troubleshoot capacity, compliance, performance, growth trends, and more. The following table shows details about service level capacity.

Table convenience features include:

Topology maps

Topology diagrams represent end-to-end data paths from virtual machines and host servers, through switches and adapters, out to arrays and their components.

Topology map features include:

Graphical presentations show trends and forecasts over time.

To expose the coordinate values on a graphical display, you can move the pointer over different areas on the graph.
