Change the IP address of EMC ViPR controller server

You can change the IP addresses of EMC ViPR controller servers and the network virtual IP address.

Before you begin

This article applies to EMC ViPR 2.0.

This operation requires the System Administrator role in ViPR.

You need access to the vCenter Server that hosts the ViPR vApp.

The ViPR vApp must not be part of a multi-VDC configuration. Check Admin > Virtual Assets > Virtual Data Centers; there should only be one VDC listed.

Procedure

  1. From the ViPR UI, shutdown all VMs (Admin > System > Health > Shutdown All).
  2. Open a vSphere client on the vCenter Server that hosts the ViPR vApp.
  3. Right-click the ViPR vApp whose IP address you want to change and select Edit Settings.
  4. Expand EMC ViPR.
  5. Edit the desired IP values and click OK.
  6. If applicable, change the network adapter to match a change in the subnet:
    1. Select a specific VM.
    2. Edit Settings.
    3. Select Virtual Hardware > Network adapter.
    4. Click OK.
  7. From the vSphere client, power on the ViPR vApp.
    Note: the ViPR vApp will fail to boot up after an IP address change if the vApp is part of a multi-VDC (geo) configuration. In this case you would need to revert the IP address change.
  8. If ViPR data service nodes are present, the controller changes are not picked up automatically. Run these commands on each data service VM to pick up the controller IP changes:
    1. Open a command window as root on the data node.
    2. Run the following command:
      /etc/systool --get-controller-ovfprops > ~/controllerProps
    3. Edit the appropriate controllerProps (network_n_ipaddr, network_n_ipaddr6, network_vip, network_vip6) to update them to the new values.
    4. Update the configuration:
      /etc/systool --set-controller-ovfprops ~/controllerProps
    5. Verify the update configuration:
      /etc/systool --get-controller-ovfprops
    6. Restart the data service VM.
