Virtual Desktop as a Service

Remote Desktops provided via the cloud from an SP using a Software-as-a-Service model. The service provider takes full responsibility for hosting and maintaining the compute, storage and access infrastructure, as well as the virtual software and applications that enable the distribution of a virtual desktop for a fixed monthly fee. Usually custom applications, office productivity software, database and middleware applications are provided for and licensed by the customer. Server OS's are usually covered by some type of service provider licensing model such as Microsoft's SPLA (Service Provider Licensing Agreement) volume licensing program.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is driven by 2 primary use cases: Boot Images requiring lowest latencies and $/Iops and general purpose NAS for home directories, user profiles, etc. that require low $/GB and simplicity at scale.
