EMC Honored for Strides in Creating a Healthy Workplace

The Mass Technology Leadership Council Honors EMC for its Healthcare Technology Innovation

Hopkinton, Mass., Thursday, November 1, 2007 -

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, is the recipient of a 2007 Technology Leadership Award by the Mass Technology Leadership Council.  The award recognizes EMC for its innovation and implementation of leading-edge technology to promote a healthy workplace for its more than 36,000 employees worldwide.

“The winners of our 2007 Technology Leadership Awards highlight the creativity and success of companies and individuals that define and exemplify our technology community,” said Joyce Plotkin, President of the Mass Technology Leadership Council.  “The awards are an important part of our continued efforts to raise awareness of the incredible innovation and leadership of our local industry.”

Delia Vetter, EMC’s Senior Director of Benefits, Employee Services and Programs, said, “As a world leader in information technology, EMC has the responsibility to apply advanced technologies to better the lives of our employee population and their families.  We‘ve made great strides in this regard and are thrilled to be recognized for creating a supportive environment that encourages healthy lifestyles. We view this as a fundamental and essential element of good business practice.”

A key part of EMC’s employee healthcare management strategy is driving innovation and adoption of new healthcare technologies, including electronic personal health records (PHRs).  All EMC employee PHRs reside in EMC Healthlink, a web-based personal health management platform developed by WebMD for EMC in 2003.  Leading the way in innovative technology solutions, EMC was the first organization to offer this type of online health management system to its U.S.-based employees, which enables medical utilization information, including diagnosis and prescription drug information to be automatically populated into employees’ personal health records.  Available 24/7 from work or home, HealthLink is designed to help EMC employees and their family members effectively manage their own health within a private, secure environment.  HealthLink also provides EMC employees access to online education and custom email newsletters geared toward employee interests such as back pain, weight loss or high blood pressure.

Additionally this year, EMC was named a “Best Employer for Healthy Lifestyles” by The National Business Group on Health.

The Mass Technology Leadership Council received more than 180 nominations for the 2007 Mass Technology Leadership Awards.  The Council’s Board of Trustees reviewed the nominations and narrowed the field to 57 finalists.  A select group of leaders and influencers in the Massachusetts technology community selected the 15 winners.  For more information about the Council or the Awards, visit
