EMC Introduces New Connectrix DS-4900B SAN Switch

New Connectrix Switch Provides Customers with a Scalable, High-Availability Solution for Addressing Mission-Critical Storage Requirements

Hopkinton, Mass., Tuesday, May 9, 2006 -

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced the EMC Connectrix® DS-4900B Fibre Channel storage area network (SAN) switch. With a flexible architecture that supports 1, 2 and 4 gigabit-per-second (Gb/s) technology, the new switch provides EMC customers with a cost-effective, scalable, single-domain solution for addressing mission-critical storage and consolidation requirements in support of an infrastructure for information lifecycle management (ILM).

Based on technology from Brocade® Communications Systems, Inc., the EMC Connectrix DS-4900B includes new capabilities for consolidating and simplifying management of SAN environments in large and midsize organizations. With features such as 64 Fibre Channel ports at 4 Gb/s in a 2U enclosure and Ports on Demand scalability, the switch combines high performance and port density with investment protection. The Ports on Demand capability is utilized to provide customers with fast, easy and cost-effective scalability from 32 to 64 ports in 16-port increments.

"The EMC Connectrix DS-4900B is an ideal solution for meeting the scalability and performance demands of mission-critical SAN environments," said Marty Lans, EMC Senior Director of Storage Network Marketing. "With new high-availability capabilities such as non-disruptive software upgrades, hot-pluggable components and hot code activation, the switch helps ensure that mission-critical infrastructure requirements are met."

The Connectrix DS-4900B switch is available with a rich optional feature-set that includes Brocade Inter-Switch Link (ISL) Trunking® that supports data path rates up to 32 Gb/s in a single trunk and Brocade Extended Fabrics®, Fabric Watch® and Performance Monitor® for increasing network performance. All four options are available in a single, cost-effective Enterprise Bundle.

The Connectrix DS-4900B is generally available today from EMC and EMC Velocity partners. It is fully interoperable and backwards-compatible with existing Connectrix B-series switches and directors.
