Bank of China and Agricultural Bank of China become latest Pacific Rim customers to purchase EMC's Symmetrix Integrated Cached Disk Arrays

Hopkinton,, Wednesday, May 17, 1995 -

EMC Corporation, the world's leading independent provider of information storage and retrieval technology, today reported that the tripling of its quarterly revenues in Asia/Pacific confirms that the company's increasing presence in the region is paying substantial dividends. Revenues were up over 200% in the recently completed first quarter, compared to the same period a year ago. EMC is expecting the Pacific Rim to be its fastest growing region in 1995, as new direct sales and service offices continue to be opened and contracts are being secured with some of the region's largest corporations.

Two of China's leading financial institutions, the Bank of China and the Agricultural Bank of China , are recent examples of major Pacific Rim organizations now storing mission-critical data on EMC Symmetrix Integrated Cached Disk Array (ICDA) systems.

"EMC's potential in the Asia/Pacific region is tremendous as countries build their economic infrastructures an the need to mange increasingly large amounts of information grows," said Michael C. Ruettgers, EMC President and CEO. "In 1994 our international growth was fueled heavily by Europe, where we more than doubled our revenues from 1993. North America and Europe remain very strong markets for EMC and our customer base and market share in those regions continues to grow. In the countries that make up the Pacific Rim, many customers are seeing us for the first time and are quickly realizing the competitive advantages they can achieve with our storage systems."

Since March, EMC has opened new direct sales offices in Singapore and in Melbourne, Australia (its second Australian office). Last year, the company completed the purchase of the majority interest in EMC Japan K.K. and now has three offices in that country. The company now has a direct presence in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia and plans to open more offices in the coming months. EMC also has distributors in China, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia.

EMC Corporation is an industrial Fortune 500 company and a leader in enterprise-wide information storage and retrieval technology, designing systems for mainframe, midrange and open systems computing environments. The company has offices worldwide and trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol EMC.
