ENERGY-EFFICIENT
Symmetrix VMAX 40K uses SSD and high-capacity HDDs, high-efficiency power supplies, FAST, virtual provisioning, and snapshots. Estimate your consumption and emission through the EMC Power Calculator.
ELIMINATING TOXIC SUBSTANCES
The VMAX 40K was proactively designed to minimize the use of potentially hazardous materials, and is built using lead-free solder. The VMAX 40K was designed to reduce or eliminate the presence of Brominated Flame Retardants (BFRs) and Halogens. VMAX 40K is compliant with RoHS, REACH, China RoHS, and other materials regulations.
PRODUCT END-OF-LIFE
The Symmetrix VMAX 40K will be properly managed and recycled at end of life by EMC’s network of approved recyclers. The product is designed for ease of disassembly and maximum recyclability—less than 3% of returned material is sent to waste-to-energy or landfill facilities. Drives are degaussed and physically shredded prior to recycling, and preference is given to recycling vendors with e-Stewards or R2 environmental certifications.
PACKAGING
VMAX 40K packaging has been designed to safeguard the product in transit while minimizing environmental impact. In some regions, the VMAX is shipped via a collapsible cab pack and drives are shipped in reusable drive packs, allowing for return and reuse of the packaging materials. Packaging is free of polyvinyl chlorides (PVCs) and polystyrenes. Most pallets used in shipment are made from wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council or the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
