Technology and ISV Storage API Descriptions
Partners can take advantage of a range of storage application programming interfaces (APIs) available through the EMC Velocity² Technology and ISV Program.
Base Program
The EMC SMI-S Provider is EMC's implementation of the storage array profile functionality for EMC CLARiiON and EMC Symmetrix storage arrays as defined by the Storage Networking Industry Association's (SNIA) SMI-S specification.
The EMC VDS Provider for EMC CLARiiON and EMC Symmetrix carries out requests specified via the Microsoft VDS interface. VDS is a Microsoft-specified interface that permits application authors to do basic disk management operation such as creating and deleting disk space.
The EMC VSS Provider for EMC CLARiiON and EMC Symmetrix provides the interface and controls that permit Symmetrix and CLARiiON to create copy images when requested to do so via the Microsoft VSS interface. The Microsoft VSS provider enables VSS Writer applications such as Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server to be quiesced on disk while the application continues to run to permit the disk or array to split off a copy of that frozen image for backup purposes.
For assistance in defining integration and development options for other products such as Symmetrix, CLARiiON, and EMC AVALONidm, please join the base program and send your request to the Technology and ISV Program Office.
Content-Addressed Storage Specialty
The EMC Centera API makes it simple for fixed content applications to perform functions such as store, retrieve, delete, and query for data objects in a variety of flexible and powerful ways. Furthermore, applications can use the API to set and read metadata such as retention period and other XML-based information uniquely associated with each data object.
Monitoring functions provide additional application capabilities for gathering state information from a given EMC Centera cluster. All applications must use this API to read and write to EMC Centera products.
Network-Attached Storage Specialty
The EMC Celerra FileMover API enables transparent file access across multiple storage tiers for larger network-attached storage deployments. This API provides a proven, reliable methodology for integrating third-party policy and migration software that automate file movement between EMC Celerra Clustered Network Server (CNS) or EMC NS Series NAS systems and EMC Centera content-addressed storage systems, ATA, and tape.
EMC Smarts Specialty
The EMC Smarts API enables partners to leverage the powerful EMC Smarts architecture in which customers use Smarts as the event management system or expect Smarts to provide additional correlation based on events generated or data collected by another system. The Smarts API makes it simple to forward events to Smarts, forward Smarts notifications or discovery results to another application, provide topology and management data to the Smarts analysis server, launch in-context tools, and add additional information to Smarts to augment the richness of data available.
