San Joaquin Valley College Selects EMC VNXe for “No Compromises” Simplicity, Scalability and VMware Software Integration
Deployed VNXe in Just One Hour While Reducing Storage Management Time by 50%; Selected EMC over NetApp and Dell/Compellent
EMC (NYSE:EMC) today announced that San Joaquin Valley College (SJVC), a private California junior college with more than 7,000 students, faculty and staff, selected EMC® VNXe™ unified storage over NetApp and Dell/Compellent for its simplicity, which reduced storage management time by 50%, and the VNXe system's ability to easily scale in a VMware virtual environment.
- Increased Productivity – VNXe provisioning wizards have reduced the amount of time that SJVC spends on storage management by 50%.
- Simplicity – SJVC deployed the VNXe in just one hour, and the seamless integration of EMC Unisphere™ and VMware vCenter™ allowed the college to create and provision storage for Virtual Machines in just a few clicks.
- Return on Investment – SJVC expects a return on investment from its implementation of VNXe in just 18 months.
Like many academic institutions, SJVC now provides students, faculty and staff with 24/7 access to educational and administrative content. Growing demand from its more than 7,000 users was placing overbearing stress on its existing storage infrastructure, forcing a move to greater scalability, flexibility and simplified management. Additionally, SJVC was previously unable to integrate their existing storage solution with their VMware virtualization and cloud infrastructure technologies.
The college considered a number of vendors including NetApp, Dell/Compellent and EMC. After exhaustive research, SJVC selected EMC for its "no compromises" simplicity, scalability and industry-leading VMware software integration.
Nick Heryford, Network Architect, SJVC
"The VNXe came with one sheet of step-by-step, intuitive instructions and took us less than one hour to deploy. Once installed, we migrated 80 production level virtual machines to our VNXe seamlessly and without interruption. The VNXe wizards, with embedded application best practices, ensured everything was configured correctly the first time. We now leverage the wizards for on-going system management which takes us half the time compared with our previous storage."
"The integration of VNXe with VMware virtualization and cloud infrastructure technologies, together with EMC Unisphere and VMware vCenter™ Server management tools, allows us to easily scale and create new virtual machines right from our vCenter Server console in one step, increasing our efficiency and productivity. Everything is in one place, and you can quickly see the entire environment and shared storage. It removes the step of having to go into the physical environment to provision storage. With VNXe everything is simple."
"The simplicity of the VNXe cannot be over-emphasized. Simplicity, flexibility and availability are all critical when running a 24/7 operation. If a student wants to take their class at 3:00AM, the online curriculum and courseware have to be available and running at peak performance. With an expected return on our investment in VNXe in just 18 months, and the many other benefits we've seen to date, we've exceeded all of our objectives."
