EMC First to Deliver 16 Gigabit FC Technologies
Industry's Fastest Fibre Channel Solutions Dramatically Increase Performance To Accelerate Customers' Journey To The Cloud
EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced the EMC Connectrix family will be the first to offer 16 gigabits per second (Gbps) Fibre Channel switching technology. Based on Brocade's new cutting edge technology, EMC Connectrix enables customers to create a powerful, end-to-end Fibre Channel solution that provides the scalability, high-performance and operational simplicity that is needed for highly-virtualized, private cloud environments. By doubling available throughput, the new 16 Gbps EMC Connectrix solutions will dramatically increase customers' ability to accelerate their journey to the cloud.
"A comprehensive portfolio that is purpose-built for virtualization and clouds, the new 16 Gbps switching technology strengthens EMC's joint fabric solutions and perfectly complements our cloud vision – to help businesses around the world make their data centers more efficient, cost-effective and agile," said EMC's Paul Brown, Vice President and general manager, Storage Networking Business, EMC. "The portfolio extends the choice of EMC newest technologies that allow thousands of customers to increase virtualization levels and drive the migration to the cloud."
As customers continue their journey to the cloud and use new, data intensive applications to get the most out of their information, the network that this data travels on is more important than ever. A fundamental requirement in supporting highly virtualized data centers and private clouds is the deployment of fabric-based networks. The new EMC Connectrix solution portfolio continues to be purpose-built for virtualization and clouds, leveraging proven technologies such as Fibre Channel and emerging technologies such as standards-based Ethernet fabrics. These products are built upon the next-generation Fibre Channel industry standard, FC-PI-5, offering 16 Gbps performance, which doubles the performance of solutions that Brocade first pioneered in 2008.
In today's era of Big Data, increasing levels of service agreements and tightening IT budgets make it imperative for customers to choose solutions which will allow them to focus more resources on adding value to the business and getting more out of their information, while reducing cost and complexity. Leveraging the new Connectrix, customers will stand at the forefront of data center evolution – increasing virtualization levels, cutting costs, increasing overall efficiency while maintaining their investment in SAN infrastructure.
"EMC has once again demonstrated their commitment to deliver the latest technology advancements that will transform customers' data centers to be more agile and responsive to user needs," said Doug Ingraham, vice president, product management and marketing, Data Center Products Group, at Brocade. "Brocade Fibre Channel and Ethernet fabrics reduce network complexity and support new and distributed applications necessary for cloud architectures. We are proud of our joint efforts to speed user adoption of our next next-generation Fibre Channel fabric technology that is high performance, flexible, and secure, while maximizing uptime and data center resiliency."
The new 16 Gbps FC Connectrix will be available within 90 days.
