EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced it was recognized as a winner of Oracle’s ‘Enable the Eco-Enterprise’ award at Oracle® OpenWorld in San Francisco, Calif. The award was presented to representatives from EMC and fourteen other organizations by Oracle’s Chairman of the Board, Jeff Henley.
As a leading global technology company, EMC helps its customers embrace eco-initiatives in their datacenters while continually maximizing its own IT performance and alleviating environmental, space and power concerns. EMC reduced its carbon footprint by deploying VMware® virtualization technologies in its datacenters and by standardizing on Oracle Real Application Clusters with Oracle Database 11g. This enabled EMC to consolidate from 51 to four database servers and 45 to six databases, saving EMC millions of dollars in datacenter hardware, management, and power and cooling.
“We are very proud of this honor,” said Sanjay Mirchandani, EMC’s Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “Like many of our customers, we have goals to consolidate and increase the efficiency and management of our technology environments. We’ve applied decades of experience using technology to drive ever better business performance using less energy and fewer materials to achieve these goals.”
EMC has aggressively driven sustainability initiatives to improve energy efficiency in its products and throughout the company; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; further education in the community and inclusion in the company; and help organizations around the globe preserve their information heritage. EMC is a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Leaders program, and has been on the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Leadership Index for three years in recognition of its comprehensive reporting on its greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategy. EMC also serves on the board of The Green Grid, a global consortium of companies, government agencies and educational institutions dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers.
