EMC Residency Services Professional

Anthony

Anthony brings his deep expertise in EMC Symmetrix and CLARiiON products to help customers that lack the staff and/or specific skills needed to work with these platforms.

“I came to this customer to migrate the SAN switch infrastructure and the servers managing the manufacturing environment from the CLARiiON to DMX,” Anthony explains. “A lot of my role has been helping the customer achieve their goals with the new EMC equipment they have acquired. This includes storage provisioning, low-level design, field change orders, and mentoring employees to help them develop the necessary capabilities in-house.

“As an EMC resident, I also provide input to our Presales and Sales teams on where the customer needs to go next and how we can help them,” adds Anthony.

Now the customer has extended an additional opportunity to Anthony.

“I have been given the task of planning their storage strategy for the next three years. This is a great opportunity for me to plan the storage infrastructure for a $12 billion global company,” he says.

“Our customers want professionals who know the equipment or know exactly where to find solutions if there are issues, and they want the best of the breed,” says Anthony. “EMC provides us with the training to make us the best. When the customer gets an EMC-badged resident, they know they’re getting a highly trained, highly professional individual who can help them with their immediate needs and take them to the next level. This puts them at ease."

Why Anthony likes working at EMC

Anthony likes the fact that the residency program provides a lot of challenges and demands technical competencies in many EMC products.

“Being in the residency program gives you an opportunity to excel,” explains Anthony. “Residencies provide a showcase for your talent. They also provide a great opportunity for you to meet and network with a lot of peers in the technical field and create relationships that stay with you even after you leave a particular customer site.”

Anthony has had the opportunity to interact with people internationally, as well. “This program allows residents to take advantage of the endless challenges of cultural diversity, both personal and professional. It allows you to grow. You can learn different disciplines and become skilled on a broad range of products within EMC.”

Anthony came to this job with a number of system administration certifications, and has continued his development through EMC, most recently achieving his EMC Proven™ Storage Technologist Specialist level certification and ITIL Foundation certification. He sees further opportunities to develop technically and to build his managerial skills.

“At EMC, you have the ability to go as far as you wish,” Anthony says. “A residency can be as intense as you make it. You have the opportunity to learn different business practices by going into various companies, and if you want a role to help customers align their business practices with technology, there are opportunities there, too.”

Do you want to work in the Residency Practice?

According to Anthony, it’s important to come to this job with in-depth technical knowledge of a minimum of two to three EMC products. You should also have some level of knowledge about other EMC products and be willing to learn more.

“You need to hit the ground running,” he says. “You are expected to have a level of knowledge that enables you to quickly help EMC customers. Because of the growth opportunities and the wealth of knowledge you can gain from the practice and from training, the EMC Residency Practice is a wonderful place to be. There’s no holding back if you want to improve your skillset.”
