Reza B.
Senior Manager, Software Engineering
When some people find out that their company has been acquired, it makes them a little nervous. But Reza looked at it as an exciting opportunity. He was working at Documentum when the company was acquired by EMC in 2003. The acquisition made Reza and his co-workers part of a broader focus on storing and managing information—which suited Reza just fine. "We felt like the acquisition let us bring more resources to bear on doing our jobs well," he says. "Being a part of this larger family opens more doors and gives you more opportunities."
Why Reza joined EMC
This opportunity has led Reza to a position as a manager in the software engineering division of the content management and archival business unit. The software developed there handles unstructured data in the enterprise—documents and media, for instance—rather than structured data managed by an ERP system. Reza focuses on operational management. He works closely with a technical architect who is more responsible for the technical design and execution.
His organization is less of a "standing team." Instead, it takes more of a consulting model. This entrepreneurial environment gives people the opportunity to grow in whatever area they find interesting. And it gives them a lot more experience than a more traditional software development model.
When he’s not working on content management software, Reza likes to spend time with his wife and two small children. They enjoy sightseeing in and around the beautiful California community where they live, and these opportunities—much like those offered by EMC—keep Reza energized.
