Digital Inclusion

In today’s digital economy, knowledge and opportunity are disproportionately available to those with access to an Internet connection. Increasing the flow of knowledge through IT creates a more digitally inclusive world.

EMC offers expertise and solutions in two areas: bridging the digital divide, and optimizing and preserving access to historical information.

United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technology and Development Partnership

EMC realizes that too many people around the world are at a significant disadvantage as a result of their lack of access to information. We sought more formal engagement in closing this digital divide to help facilitate sustainable development worldwide, and also to create value for EMC by increasing our presence in new markets.

In 2008, we joined the United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technology and Development (UN-GAID). UN-GAID’s mission is to expand access to information and communication technologies around the world as an essential component of socioeconomic development. UN-GAID brings together governments, academia, corporations, non-governmental organizations, and communities to collaborate toward this purpose. It was founded to help the U.N. achieve its Millennium Development Goals, which aim to cut global poverty in half by 2015.

In joining this partnership, we intend to leverage our technology solutions and human resources to help bridge the digital divide in developing countries. In 2009, our main focus with UN-GAID is to determine how information security can advance economic and social development.

EMC Information Heritage Initiative

The EMC Information Heritage Initiative recognizes organizations and individuals leading the way to protect and preserve the world's information heritage. EMC and its partners in this philanthropic and commercial initiative believe that information should be preserved, protected, and made globally accessible in digital form.
