Boston Museum of Science

EMC is a corporate member of the Museum of Science and the lead sponsor of the Current Science and Technology Center (CS&T), a dynamic exhibit and information space in the Boston Museum of Science. The CS&T runs current and breaking science news stories on a state-of-the-art media delivery system. Frequently changed exhibits and touch screen stories allow users to explore various topics in more depth and stay current in the world of science.

EMC CLARiiON networked storage at work

At the heart of the CS&T is an EMC CLARiiON networked storage system. The CLARiiON delivers data from a multi-media database to 35 computers controlling cameras, touch screens, plasma screens, a satellite feed, audio inputs, speakers, lights, and a web site generator. This centralized system allows all of CS&T's distributed information to be updated and delivered efficiently and easily. Communications links with field research locations around the world—as well as live presentations by scientists and leaders in technology—keep the Center on the cutting edge.

Excellence in science education

CS&T won the 2002 Gold Muse Award, given by the American Association of Museums to recognize excellence in the use of media and technology in science education. In 2003, Sarah Zohn, EMC VP of EMC Software Operations, accepted a duplicate of the Gold Muse as an expression of the CS&T's gratitude for our contribution to the Center.

In 2007, a number of female EMC employees took part in the Museum of Science program, "Inspiring Minds: Meet Women in Science". The program gave many young women the opportunity to speak personally with accomplished women in various scientific fields.
